The tiring part of closing time is not the counting — it is the question of how much should be in the drawer. And anyone who adds card takings to cash always closes on a difference they cannot explain.
No credit card · ready in a minute
Opening float + cash from the day’s services and sales + cash paid in − petty cash out = what should be in the drawer. You count what you have and the difference appears as a number.
They show in income and are never added to cash — the single most common mistake when counting by hand. The drawer is not the income, and the screen keeps them apart instead of mixing them.
The amount is credited to the day of service, not the hour of payment. A late payment after midnight will not move Tuesday’s money into Wednesday or throw two days’ drawers out.
On close, the expected total and the difference are stored on the row itself, so a closed day does not change because a booking is edited tomorrow. And the counted amount is entered before the expected one is shown — so the number cannot tempt you into matching it.
The day runs and money is taken whether or not you opened a shift — those who want the discipline have it, and those who do not are never blocked.
